cubit on the one side, and a cubit on the other side of
that which remaineth in the length of the
curtains of the tent, it shall hang over the sides of the tabernacle on this

9 Mercy
Seat’
Ex. 25:17 And thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a
cubit and a
half the
breadth thereof. 18 And thou shalt make two cherubims of
gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of
the mercy

other end: even of the mercy seat shall ye
make the cherubims on the two ends thereof. 20 And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the
mercy seat
with their wings, and their faces shall look
one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be. 21 And thou
shalt put
the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony
that I shall give thee. 22 And
there I will
meet with thee, and I
will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two
cherubims which are upon the ark
of the testimony, of all things which I will
give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.

Already in the early days the worshipers presented
sacrifices, by faith looking to the future Sacrifice of Christ. It symbolized their gratitude and trust in GOD.
Gen 4:3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the
ground an offering unto the LORD. 4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof.
And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.”

On Mount Sinai, GOD gave HIS people whom HE delivered
from slavery out of Egypt not only the Ten Commandments. Numerous ordinances
about sacrifices, feast days and ceremonies were to illustrate to the
Israelites GOD’s plan with mankind.

GOD’s Dwelling
Place
The ceremonial Laws were in connection with the
Santuary: “And ley them make me a
Sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. According to all that I shew thee,
after the pattern of the Tabernacle, and the pattern of all instruments
thereof, even so shall ye make it.”
Ex. 25:8 And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell
among them. 9 According to all that I shew thee, after
the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof,
even so shall ye make it.”

GOD left the ceremonies and the needed instruments not to
human imagination. Too great was the danger to misrepresent GOD and the plan of
Salvation. Even the workman were ordained by GOD, for the work was not only to
be done with skill, but also with a correct attitude.
Ex. 31:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses,
saying, 2 See, I have called by name Bezaleel the
son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: 3 And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in
wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of
workmanship, 4 To devise cunning works, to
work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, 5 And in cutting of
stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of
workmanship. 6 And I, behold, I have given
with him Aholiab, the
son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise
hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee;
7 The tabernacle of the congregation, and the ark of the
testimony, and the mercy seat that is thereupon, and all the furniture of the tabernacle, 8 And the table and his furniture, and the pure candlestick with all his furniture, and the altar of
incense,
9 And the altar of burnt offering with all his furniture, and the laver and
his foot, 10 And the cloths of service, and the holy garments for Aaron the
priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest's office, 11 And the anointing oil,
and sweet incense for the holy place:
according to all that I have commanded thee shall they do.
